Coronavirus – Supporting Our Community

The last few weeks has been particularly testing for everyone in our community. At YMCA we would like to thank all our members and centre users for their patience and kind words of support. We sincerely hope you are all staying healthy and safe.

Despite the our centre being closed we believe having a sense of community is more important than ever, and it is heartening to the community spirit across the country. We believe keeping our YMCA community active is just as important in this time, so that’s why we’re still doing what we can to support you and those in need. Checkout below what we’re doing and how you can get involved!

Other Ways We Are Helping

During this time YMCA Plymouth has also been active in supporting our community in other ways. Some of these include:

Remote support for Cardiac & Pulmonary service users
Our incredible trainer Suzanne Sanderson, has been volunteering to ensure this vulnerable group stay active and supported. If you or someone you know needs COPD support please first contact our partners at Elder Tree.

Youth Workers in Schools supporting Vulnerable & Key Worker Children
Dan Gardener from our youth team has been supporting multiple schools providing activities and PE sessions for children who are vulnerable or of key workers and cannot stay home.

YMCA Football Teams supporting those in isolation
The YMCA All Saints FC football club has been supporting those isolated in the local community with food hampers and other assistance.

We Need Your Support

YMCA Plymouth is a local independant charity. We cannot understate how significant the impact of coronavirus has been on our organisation. Unfortunately, we fall in a difficult position where we find ourselves both too small, and too big to receive Government or local authority support.

Our services, which include not only community sport and fitness, education and family work, but also specialist services such as cardiac rehabilitation, disability sport and targeted youth work, are all under threat.

We know this time is particularly difficult for every business and charity, but if you are someone who believes in local centres like ours, supporting the community, then please consider making a donation to us or joining our 2.6 challenge and getting sponsored in aid of our vital work.
