Results day celebrated at Discovery College
Hundreds of students from our Discovery College celebrated their results this month, with both Level 3 and Level 2 results being announced. Once again, results were very positive and we are proud of the efforts of our students. Any young people who are concerned about their results are encouraged to contact Education Manager, Kirsten, who is more than happy to help at kirsten.p@discoverycollege.org.uk.
Many students are now taking their next steps, like Josh who is applying his BTEC Business knowledge to running his own family business, or BTEC Sport student Bracken who will be moving on to University in September.
The college is also still accepting places from Year 11s still not sure about their next steps, or may have gotten different GCSE results than expected. Please contact Kirsten or visit our website to find out more and apply.

Soft Play Development Update
Work is in full swing for our new Plymouth-themed ‘Ocean City’ Soft Play area set to open soon. Due to material delays and knock-on effects on the installation of equipment, we now expect to be opening in October 2022.
The new area will feature a large two-tier play area full of fun play features for Under 7s. There will also be a baby’s area and seating for parents who can order food and drinks from Bill’s Boys Bistro.

New instructors for fitness classes in September
September is always a great time to get back into your fitness routine, which might have slipped over the summer months! We’re really excited to announce that some top new instructors will be joining our team to help you get back into it – or simply get into it if you’re new!
We have the uplifting and motivating Rachel Harrison taking the reins for Sh’bam – the ultimate fun dance-style workout. We also have Sam Cory returning to the team, with his passion for getting the most out of anyone whatever your ability. Sam will be taking over HIIT and Tuesday Rigfit.

Bumper crop from our garden heading to the dinner tables of those in need
Throughout the summer our garden team has been hard at work cultivating our crops to give to local people in need via Provide Devon. The hard work is paying off with large harvests like the one above coming in each week. The food donations are a great help as the cost of living crisis bites and we, unfortunately, see more local families needing extra support.

Lots of fun at our biggest Holiday Club ever!
Throughout the summer we have been delighted to welcome over 100 kids to our summer holiday youth club running on the weekdays. It’s been a very busy summer and we’re proud to have been able to offer free spaces for families that need support.
Don’t forget that we still have one more week of Holiday Club left as well as on this bank holiday Monday.

Youth mentoring programme ready to launch
Recently we welcomed our final cohort of inspiring mentors to our My Future mentoring programme starting this September.
The programme will see over 150 kind individuals from businesses across the city be paired with young people from our Discovery College. The mentors will donate their time, experience and wisdom to help guide the students throughout the year.
The programme has been kindly sponsored by Crowne Plaza, Diversity Business Incubator, Rowe IT, Careers South West and Horizon Counselling Services.
