Centre redevelopment gets underway

If you have been to our centre this month then you will have noticed that a lot is happening! Our main refurbishment works are now fully underway, beginning the construction of our brand-new Gym, Reception and Immersive Spin Studio. We also hope you have been enjoying our new changing rooms that opened earlier this month, giving you a sample of the quality of improvements we’re working on.

Don’t forget that tomorrow (1st July) the gym is closed 10am-2pm due to electrical works. Thank you for your continued patience with any disruption. We are doing our best to minimise this and we assure you that the changes will be well worth it!

Be sure to follow us on Facebook for more updates on these exciting developments.

Free breakfast club launched for our young people

A new free breakfast club has been launched at Discovery College, helping ensure our young people get the best start to their day.

The new club has been spearheaded by BTEC Sport Tutor, Kasia Ablamowicz, with support from local food charity, Provide Devon.

There is a well-established link for breakfast clubs having a positive effect on young people’s wellbeing, as well as improving attendance and attainment. We hope the benefits will be felt by all our young people that take advantage of it!

Summer Holiday Club bookings now available

The summer holidays are now less than a month away and once again we have lots of activities and trips planned for ages 8-16 throughout the break.

Holiday Club runs from 8am – 5.30pm, with a multi-activity day session at only £15. Sessions are packed with all kinds of activities and are delivered by qualified youth workers.

Helen is set to go the distance for a good cause

YMCA Plymouth Trustee, and all-around superstar, Helen West, is set to take on an epic sponsored cycle in aid of our work in Plymouth and for deprived communities in Nepal via charity SAHODAR UK.

Helen will be cycling 993 miles in 14 days from Lands End to John O’Groats, Scottland, starting her journey on 1st August. She is hoping to raise £5,000 – with every bit of sponsorship making a big difference to the lives of vulnerable people we support here in Plymouth and communities in Nepal.

If you would like to sponsor her effort then please donate to her Virgin Giving fundraising page.

The Cabin Childcare Centre finishes garden improvements

The Cabin nursery, located at our centre, has just finished a brilliant improvement to their children’s garden and play area.

The new changes include a new sandpit, slide, newly turfed play space and lots more!

They also have plenty more upgrades planned which will continue over the summer.

If you are looking for quality and affordable childcare for the younger ones this summer then check out their website for details.
