Bill’s Boys Bistro opening soon at YMCA Plymouth
A top-class café dining experience will be opening on 4th January at YMCA Plymouth, Honicknowle Lane, bringing with it a newly refurbished café and a fantastic menu of deliciously nutritious food and drink.
Called ‘Bill’s Boys Bistro’, the new café will be serving a large selection of hot and cold food including; paninis, sandwiches, salads and burgers. The Bistro will also be serving a range of drinks including award-winning freshly ground coffee from The Welsh Coffee Company.
The café will be run by father and son Ross and Josh Symons, with the name ‘Bill’s Boys Bistro’ being a heartfelt nod to Ross’s father and Josh’s grandfather, Bill Symons.
Ross said: “My father was a big inspiration to me and was always someone who looked out for others and cared about the community. That’s the ethos and legacy we’re putting into our café and the great food we’ll be serving – hence the name, Bill’s Boys Bistro.”
Having previously run other successful eateries in Plymouth, Ross says he’s looking forward to bringing a high-quality dining experience to the YMCA, while at the same time staying true to the community ethos of the centre.
Ross said: “Keeping things affordable for everyone is really important to us, but at the same time that doesn’t mean we’re compromising on the quality of our food and drink. We’re proud to be sourcing a lot of our offering locally, which will be freshly-prepared into healthy meals, snacks and drinks. Some of the great local suppliers we’re working with include Langage Ice cream, Friary Mill Bakery and Burts Chips.”
“We’re also keen to align with YMCA’s mission to support people’s health and wellbeing, so you’ll find a varied, healthy and nutritious menu – but of course you’ll still find other favourites such as pastries and cakes for that once-in-a-while treat!”
Unlike a regular café, the Bistro will be truly serving the whole community, for example, they will be providing free school meals to students from Discovery College, catering for Special Olympics athletes, supporting YMCA’s Holiday Club children, as well as YMCA’s gym members and other users. Aside from serving YMCA regulars, the café will also be open for anyone to drop in, as well as for friends and family of the centre users. The YMCA also offers free parking and is only a short walk from Outland Road or Honicknowle Green.
Tom Lavis, CEO of YMCA Plymouth said “Bringing this new café to our centre is exciting news for our community and another great example of how we’re continuing to modernise our much-loved facility. We can’t wait for all of our visitors and members to try the delicious food and drink on offer when it opens from 4th January.”
