A brand-new toddler soft play centre, themed with iconic landmarks of Plymouth, has begun development at our centre on Honicknowle Lane. The new development will add to our spectacular modernisation, starting with our new immersive spin studio and gym which was opened last October, followed by the new bistro a new outdoor artificial pitch set to open soon.

The Soft Play development is being installed by ‘The Play Company’, based just up the road in Totnes.
James Evans, Sales Manager of the company said: “We are incredibly proud to be able to work with YMCA Plymouth to create such a unique soft play area based on Plymouth’s status as an ‘Ocean City’. Kids will be able to Slide into Tinside Lido, cross the Brunel Bridge, explore the streets of the Barbican, or dive under the waves into the sea-themed area.”
“Our design draws inspiration from everything that makes Plymouth such a great place to live, to create a fantastic space that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, and we cannot wait for the community to enjoy it.”

The centre will be open to children aged 0-7 years, with seating for adults and easy access to our new Bill’s Boys Bistro, which boasts award-winning freshly ground coffee and home-baked cakes – if you’ve not visited it yet, then you really need to!
Tom Lavis, CEO of YMCA Plymouth said: “I’m delighted we’re announcing yet another new development at our centre. With this new soft play facility, our building will truly cater for all ages, whether that be mum, dad, grandma, toddlers or teenagers. As an independent Plymouth charity, we’re keenly aware of the current cost-of-living crisis and the need for affordable and safe places for families to take their children and get active. This will be a great new way for us to support local people and bring another asset into our community.”

Plymouth-based contractors Keith Elliott Construction will be leading the development, once again teaming up with us after their initial work on our centre’s refurbishment in 2021.
Keith Elliott, Director of KEC said: “We are delighted to have won the contract for YMCA Plymouth’s new Soft Play area and to be bringing other Plymouth-based sub-contractors on board. It’s another exciting project and we’re looking forward to working with the YMCA Plymouth team once again.”
The development is proceeding throughout the summer, with a completion target in October.
