Discovery College students explore Spain

BTEC Travel & Tourism students from our Discovery College had a trip to Murcia in Spain last week where they were hosted by a local school. While there they investigated the different approaches to local tourism.

Students were involved in the planning and logistics of the trip including the organisation of their excursions and cultural sightseeing.

The trip was made possible thanks to a lot of hard work from our college staff team as well as with support from the Turing Scheme UK.

Training an ‘Ice Warrior’ in the YMCA Gym

This week our gym team were joined by our charity’s President and Polar Explorer, Jim McNeill, as well as Ops Director of Ice Warrior project Sam Clifford. The two are taking part in personal training sessions (or as they dub it “beasting sessions”) with our team as part of their training for an upcoming Arctic expedition.

New Hybrid AstroTurf outdoor pitch is nearly finished

Our outdoor pitch has undergone an amazing transformation with the installation of our new artificial surface – the first of its kind in Plymouth. There are still some finishing touches left to do before it’s ready to use, but we can’t wait to see people using it soon.

Students get reading in new cosy classroom

Young people from our Discovery College have been enjoying a brand new classroom and reading space that was given a Danish ‘Hygge’ style makeover – making it a warm and relaxing space. The new-look classroom also features plenty of new reading materials, relevant to our students’ course areas as well as mental health.

This project has been funded with thanks to South West Water
