Extra mile efforts from our Discovery College students are recognised

Recently at our Discovery College, many students have been given recognition awards for their positive efforts in their vocational courses. Students studying post-16 qualifications in Travel & Tourism, Business, Sport, Childcare, Public Services and Health & Social Care were awarded through a scheme that sees tutors nominate those who go the extra mile.

With some students undertaking exams this month and many more working hard on assignments it’s been a busy time at Discovery College before heading into the easter break. Well done to all our students and we look forward to seeing you all again after the holiday!

If you know a young person considering their next steps after Year 11, then remember it’s not too late to apply for a course at Discovery College starting in September 2023.

The oldest YMCA fitness member gets awarded for his unmatched loyalty

Earlier this month, our fitness Manager Neil Talbot and CEO Tom Lavis visited Fred, our longest-serving and oldest fitness member.

Now at 90 years old, Fred was presented with our ‘Member Loyalty Award’ as well as his own custom YMCA shirt and a £20 shopping voucher!

Although due to his health, he hasn’t been at the gym lately, we were delighted to pay him this surprise visit to remind him he’s still well and truly part of our YMCA fitness family.

The amazing SDS team ran a fantastic fun-filled night and with the help of everyone involved helped raise over £8,000. The funds will make a huge difference across a range of our vital charitable services that help local people. We would like to give a big thank you to SDS and everyone who took part on the night!

BTEC students meet the Marines

Our Level 2 & 3 Public Services Students at Discovery College had a gruelling day out training with 47 Commando (Raiding Group) Royal Marines recently. The students were subjected to a number of fitness tests, tasks, challenges and activities that tested both their physical and mental endurance and abilities.

Despite the hard work, all students had a great time and definitely earned the respect of the Marines they trained with. Well done everyone!
