YMCA Plymouth wins regional ‘Community Champion’ Award
After a fantastic year for our charity, this month we were hugely honoured and proud to be crowned winners of the Community Champion category at the Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce Awards 2023!
Chosen by a local panel of judges, the Chamber of Commerce said the award recognises YMCA Plymouth as an outstanding organisation which “facilitates and participates and enables community engagement, demonstrating the power of giving back.”
Supporting our community and enabling people to belong, contribute and thrive is what we’re all about at our centre, so thank you to all of our members, students, parents, centre users, partners, volunteers and more, for being part of our YMCA family! With your support, we will continue doing what we do, and being a champion for our local Plymouth community for many more years to come.
Young people get talking for mental health awareness week
Students from our Discovery College took part in Mental Health Awareness Week in May by hosting a ‘Tea Talk’ in our Health & Social Care classrooms and out in our stunning community garden.
YMCA’s Small Talks campaign is all about encouraging conversations about mental health by simply having small talks.

Sun’s out, game’s on! Hire our astroturf this summer
With the recent glorious sunshine and long evenings, it’s a great chance to get out onto our new multi-activity astro.
Great for 5-a-side football, netball or other activities, the pitch is available to hire for just £25 per hour or £20 if you block book.
Also don’t forget for those days when the sun isn’t out (sadly they will return!) we have our fantastic indoor sports halls and other facilities to hire.

Fitness class timetable changes for June
We’ve made a few changes to our fitness class timetable! So if you’re looking to shape up for the summer, then be sure to get yourself booked in.
A few changes to note include; RigFit now being available on a Monday evening instead of Tuesday, our ‘Spinning Endurance’ class being renamed to Freestyle Spin, and Monday Spinning Strength changing to Les Mills RPM (Virtual) – this one is a lot of fun and has great tunes!

Holiday Club Fun
Lastly, we’ll leave you with a photo from this May/June Half-term Holiday Club, hosted for children at our centre. Our next summer club will be available to book from 23rd June, and free spaces will be available, subject to availability, so save the date and visit our website then!
