We’re back, secure and ready to go!

It has been a long few months, but we are extremely excited to be finally opening our doors once again from Monday 3rd August. The team has been working incredibly hard these last few weeks to ensure our facility is safe for you to return and get active in again. From all the team, we would like to express our thanks to all our member’s kind words and support over these last few months. While things may be a bit different when we return, we’re confident that our centre is ready to get you fit and active again, in the way that you know and love. There will be new measures and guidelines once we return to ensure your safety. So to help you get your bearings, the team has created a short video to show you around and guide you through: Watch the video here

Full measures and guidelines for once we return are also on our website, as well as our timetable and opening times. We hope to return to our full opening hours as soon as we can and we will be continually reviewing our timetable. However, we think you’ll love the classes we’ve got on from next week as well as our new socially-distanced gym. We’ll see you soon!

Discovery College students celebrate in virtual graduation day

Despite the challenges of lockdown, young people from our Discovery College have been celebrating another successful year in a virtual graduation day. With the official annual graduation ceremony postponed, students and tutors have been meeting up online to celebrate another year where students excelled towards their future careers. We would like to thank them for all their hard work, as well as the excellent Discovery staff team, who pulled together in the last few months, going above and beyond for our students. To students and tutors alike, we hope you enjoy your hard-earned summer holiday!

Youth isolations packs delivered to more local young people

Throughout June we were fortunate to be able to deliver a second batch of our ‘youth isolation packs’ through Discovery College. The packs were for young people in need to access technology for learning, as well as other essential supplies.

During this period we have been working with Provide Devon, the Devon Community Foundation and others, to assist vulnerable young people. This has included food deliveries, mental health support sessions and Chromebook laptops given to those who couldn’t otherwise have access to technology.

A glimpse into an exciting future for our centre

While all our efforts have been focused on reopening our centre safely and securely these last few weeks, you may have missed some very big news about the future of our centre. For some time we have been seeking investment to modernise our facility and many members may even recall hearing about rebuild projects in the past. However, we are now extremely proud to announce that we have secured significant funding to support the first-phase regeneration of our site.

This regeneration will include improved cardiac facilities, a modernised gym and an innovative immersive spin studio. Plans for the development are still ongoing, but more will be revealed to you over the coming months. This will be an exciting new chapter for our centre and we can’t wait to share this journey with you.
