Pledge to Paint campaign goes big!

This month has seen a flurry of activity in our centre thanks to some very generous local businesses, pledging their time and support to paint areas of our building used by so many in our community.

The biggest area completed was Sports Hall 1 which was painted over half-term thanks to a super team from Ian Williams Ltd, with the help of access donated by LTC Powered Access Ltd and a huge 72 gallons of paint donated by Dulux!

Other areas painted included our classrooms, by teams from Homes for Students and Acronyms Ltd, as well as our studio and stairwell towards the bistro, which was given a makeover by BLKC Decorators. Finally, Johnstone’s Decorating Centre kindly donated some paint for the fencing in our community garden.

We are hugely thankful for all of the businesses that have supported us throughout this campaign and we hope you enjoy the fresh look to these community spaces.

YMCA Over 65s Social Group takes to the dance floor

Our Y’s Group, which promotes intergenerational links and combats loneliness for the elderly, set out this month on a trip down memory lane, as they returned to the Duke of Cornwall for an afternoon dance. With a live performance from the Carlton Big Band, the group were taken back in time with music from the 10 piece band including Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Ellington, Jazz and Swing.

This was a special treat also for our eldest member Eddie, aged 96 who reminisced on his many evenings dancing during the war. The group were also treated to afternoon tea kindly donated by the Duke of Cornwall. Transport was kindly supplied by CityBus.

Pool table in Bistro gets a much-needed makeover

Our free pool table in Bill’s Boys Bistro is looking good thanks to a brilliant makeover from Tamar Gaming. The team kindly donated their time to refurbish the table and give it a new look all in red.

It’s absolutely free to play, so why not head up for a game and a snack or coffee in the Bistro next time you’re in?
