A big thank you to local businesses

This week we were proud to welcome a range of generous businesses to our centre, who have helped support our charity in recent times. The ‘Making an Impact‘ event was hosted in our immersive cycle studio to showcase how the support we have received has made a big difference to the local community.

The event was sponsored by West Financial Management and featured a talk by Helen West about her incredible sponsored cycle across the country, which raised over £6,000 for our work.

Some of the businesses and work featured were; Ian WillaimsLTCDulux and D Farnham Electrical‘s support for transforming our Sports Hall. Other mentions included Cornerstone Vision’s support for our community garden, and Plymouth Live journalists giving talks to inspire our Discovery College students.

Lord Mayor launches ‘Plymouth Mayflower Specials’ at our centre

One of the most popular and successful clubs hosted at our centre, Special Olympics Plymouth & District, has a new look and name after a launch celebration this month, inaugurated by Lord Mayor Councillor Terri Beer.

The new name ‘Plymouth Mayflower Specials’, reflects the local Plymouth community supported by the club. Although the name is new, the club will still be running the same fantastic quality sports activities for people with learning difficulties, whilst offering pathways to competition through Special Olympics.

Our Discovery College students were all smiles before half-term, fitting in lots of fun Easter themed activities around their exams and revision.

Students have been working hard on assignments and revision for exams, while looking after their mental health at the same time, by taking some time out to do fun activities such as making tasty chocolate treats!
