Support & Advice

YMCA Plymouth is proud to be part of the Plymouth Wellbeing Hub and Family Hub Networks. Our centre provides a range of Support and Advice services, including health improvement, family and parenting support, specialist provision, financial advice and more. We can also signpost to a range of services across the Hub networks, so if there isn’t something we deliver here, we’ll be able to advise or refer you to the right place.

1-1 Support & Drop-ins

Active Health Programme

Our Active Health Programme is for anyone who may have a health problem or barrier to getting active. Whether it’s anxiety or a physical condition our team can provide 1-1 consultations and support to suit your needs with a tailored programme of activities in our gym and fitness classes.

Welcome Hub Support

Our Welcome Hub drop-in room is a safe space where you can seek support most times before 4pm on weekdays. Ideal for those not sure where to go for help with a range of family matters, you can speak to our advisor confidentially to discuss your needs. Whilst this space is usually free to drop-in it may somtimes be unavailable if you arrive when it is not free, our reception team will gladly make an appointment for you.

Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice run a free advice drop-in at our centre every second Friday of the month at 10am – 2pm. Their trained adviser can offer you signposting and confidential advice on benefits, budgeting, debts and more

Livewell Health Advice

Livewell South West offer a free drop-in health info and sign-posting service outsite our gym on set days. They offer free blood pressure tests and advice on a range of health topics, from stopping smoking to weightloss and much more. Please check our social media to find out when the next drop in will be available.

Supportive Group Sessions & Activities

Community Garden

Our community garden offers is open to all on Sundays, whether you simply want to enjoy the space or volunteer your time to get involved in growing. All produce grown in this space is donated to local people in need. The space is also open to bookings for groups who want to use it for workshops or other outdoor learning opportunities.

Welcome Space

Free soup, tea & coffee, games and more are offered in our warm and welcome space this winter on Fridays from 3pm-6pm within our cafe.

SEND Activities

We host a huge range of FREE activities for children with SEND and their parent/guardians. Activities range from bouncy castle sessions, to soft play, gym and sports sessions and more.

Over 65s Club (Ys Group)

Our over 65s social group helps combat lonlieness and isolation with bi-monthly activities hosted around Plymouth with most activities being free or offered for a small donation.

Community Gym & Classes

Our gym isn’t like most gyms -we pride ourselves on our friendly and inclusive ethos making our gym and classes accessible, affordable and non-threatening environments where people feel safe to get fitter and feel supported by our staff along their fitness journey.

Walking Group

Led by a walk leader, these gentle walking sessions are perfect for anyone wanting to look after their health in mind and body and socialise with others. Most walks take place from the YMCA itself which has free parking.

Medical Rehabilitation Classes

We offer Cardiac, Pulmonary and Diabetes rehabilitation services at our YMCA. Offering Phase 1-3 in rehab in partnership with the NHS with phase 4 delivered by our YMCA staff. Please speak to your GP or social perscription advisor for referral to this service.

Special Soft Play Sessions

We run specialised soft play sessions including specialist free sessions for dads and children in partnership with Barnardo’s, free quiet SEND play sessions and affordable mainstream sessions.

Running Club

Our inclusive running group is all about getting enjoying the benefits of running whilst developing your ability and fitness in a way that’s non-competitive and fun. All runs start from YMCA Plymouth.

Men’s Mental Health Group

Every Man Matters is an informal group for men (18+) to get together have a brew and talk about issues in a friendly and non-judgmental environment.

Sports Clubs & Sessions

YMCA Plymouth hosts a wide range of inclusive grass roots sports clubs and activities. Contact us to learn more about what’s on offer.

Training & Education

YMCA Plymouth’s Social Mobility programme, includes a range of educational courses and projects for young people including full-time post-16 qualifications, short-employability courses, events and more.

Homelessness Support

Family Support via Barnardos

Barnardo’s Plymouth delivers a range of servies that provide support for local families, including workshops and sessions hosted at YMCA Plymouth.

External Skills & Employment Support

Skills Launchpad Plymouth offers free, tailored support for:
young people aged 16–24, including those with additional needs, through the Youth Hub
adults aged 25+ seeking work, facing redundancy, or changing careers via the Adult Hub.

YMCA Small Talks Mental Health Campaign

Small chats can make a big difference to our mental health. YMCA has launched it’s Small Talks campaign to help encoruage talking to support our mental health.

We’re proudly part of Plymouth’s Wellbeing Hub and Family Hub Network

Based throughout Plymouth, the Family and Wellbeing Hubs make it easier for you to access information, health, and community services. Each Family and Wellbeing Hub can help you with health advocacy, debt advice, mental health support, opportunities to volunteer, employment advice, and general information and advice.

If a particular service or support you need isn’t available at our YMCA we’ll happily help direct you to a hub that can help.
